Our view of Ramshorn Peak is a daily reminder of the Absaroka and Wind River Mountain ranges, which are a part of the nation's first national forest, Shoshone N.F., at the southern edge of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Here, logs are sorted and decked for processing. This is where we hand-peel logs with a drawknife and handcraft notches with a chainsaw, mallet and chisel. A 52" Hud-Son band sawmill is used for custom milling. The 8" thick wall timbers average
18" in height. We salvaged the timber
locally from a stand of 300 year old Douglas fir
trees which were recently killed by the bark beetles. We then fashioned it into this 3 bedroom/2 bath log home with a loft. It is currently for sale.
